Rolf Harris is facing more than two decades behind bars after being found guilty of assaulting four teenage girls.

The jury in London took four days to find the Australian entertainer guity of 12 offences of assault in Britain between 1968-1986.

The 84 year old will be sentenced on Friday, with each charge carrying a two year maximum sentence.

Justice Nigel Sweeney has already indicated it is likely he'll face time behind bars.

Given the conviction of all 12 counts, it is inevitable that the type of sentence uppermost in the court's mind is a custodial sentence.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has told the ABC, he is "gutted" by the conviction.

"It's just sad and tragic that this person who was admired seems to be a perpetrator."
