BLUES BREAK EIGHT YEAR ORIGIN DROUGHT Live

by Brett

A clean sweep of the 2014 State of Origin series is now on the 'to do list' for New South Wales after securing the shield overnight.

The Blues beat the Maroons 6-4 in front of a packed ANZ Stadium, bringing to an end an eight year losing streak.

Fans and players erupted after Trent Hodkinson crossed the line in the 71st minute and then converted the try, with celebrations starting shortly after full time in the sheds - where the boys spent two hours before returning to the centre of the field for a few beers and some late night team photos.

Celebrations continued back at the team hotel where crowds of people gathered outside for a guard of honour with the team partying in private throughout the night.

In the post match media conference, Queensland coach Mal Meninga was gracious in defeat, delivering a simple message to his former Canberra Raiders team mate and Blues counterpart, Laurie Daley, saying "well done ... congratulations ... you got me!".

Despite a few injuries for both teams, they're now looking ahead to game three on Wednesday July 9 at Suncorp Stadium with Queensland no doubt keen to save face and win at least one match of this year's series.
